Akinah Rahmaan is Vice President, Marketing at Island Def Jam Music Group. Ms. Rahmaan oversees and directs marketing campaigns on behalf of her roster of IDJ artists, which includes Frank Ocean, Big Sean, Pusha T, Jhene Aiko, Fabolous, Luke James, and Teyana Taylor. Ms. Rahmaan is responsible for the creation of marketing and advertising plans, artist development, image direction, including consumer marketing, print and electronic advertising, strategic marketing and brand partnerships, creative direction, and branding. Prior to joining IDJ in 2010, Ms. Rahmaan was Director of Music Strategy at Translation Advertising and Consultation.
There, she created and cultivated integrated entertainment marketing opportunities for client brands including Verizon, Bath & Body Works, Claire’s, General Motors, and Procter & Gamble. She also co-founded MusicSoopz Inc., a music supervision company where she served as music supervisor on film projects including The Gospel (2005), and Stomp The Yard (2007).
Ms. Rahmaan began her career in music in 1999, as a Manager at Violator Management, where she managed the day-to-day careers of artists, including Busta Rhymes, Missy Elliott, LL Cool J, Tweet and Q-Tip. A native of Maryland, Ms. Rahmaan attended Morgan State University in Baltimore, where she graduated in 1999 with the Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology.
